The overall theme of this project is a culmination of different southern artists that have influenced me as a musician. Many the chops are comprised 70’s funk, jazz, bossa nova, and soul, mixed with Southern hip hop. Sonically the South has been prominent from quite some time, especially within hip hop music. I often find myself reminiscing on the dances we used to do as children and comparing with what’s happening today. The songs were not only catchy, but provided a space for individuals to understand and be a part of a culture they knew nothing about. Southern production fostered in a wave of DIY producers and independent labels that would leave their stamp on the music industry. This is my testament to those artists and producers.
